The Woodwork

The ‘restorers’ of 1784 swept away the original rood-screen and erected a partition-wall, a low round-headed arch and a flat plaster-covered ceiling to the chancel, all of which were removed in 1874.

Reredos

In 1928 Miss A. B. Moore gave the present reredos (the ornamental screen covering the wall behind the altar) in memory of members of her family, and marking the sixth centenary of the founding of the present Chancel.

The reredos panels represent the Annunciation, the Visit of the Magi, Christ on the Cross between St Mary and St John, the Resurrection and Mary Magdalene meeting the Risen Christ.

Standard candlesticks were later made to match the English Altar.

Oak Screens

The oak screens were a gift of George E Moore in memory of his parents, designed by FE Howard and executed in 1924, following the ancient Cotswold traditional design.

In 1928 Miss A. B. Moore gave the rood screen in memory of members of her family, and to mark the sixth centenary of the founding of the present Chancel

The Coats of Arms of the Patrons of the church, are repeated across the Rood Screen in the chancel and across into the north aisle.

Pews

Oak choir stalls with linenfold panelling and a filigree flower motif sit on either side of the chancel. Constructed of oak to match the rood screen and nave roof they were temporarily moved out during our re-ordering and proved to be very solid and heavy pieces of furniture!

Sanded, varnished and ready for use again - we’re really proud of the facelift our old nave pews have undergone! They are really beautiful and with new red cushions, really comfy too!

Chairs

As part of our re-ordering we wanted to make both the north aisle and balcony flexible spaces, and decided we needed some chairs. Race Furniture, based in the village, did us proud with a beautiful beech veneered chair which is just perfect - they are easy to move, very comfortable to sit on and robust enough for everyday use.
