Rachel Rosborough

Rector until June 2017

Christopher Etherton Associate Minister

Michelle Porter-Babbage, Curate

Rachel has been appointed Priest in Charge of Granchester and Newnham in the Diocese of Ely from July 2017. She came to be Rector of Bourton on the Water with Clapton & the Rissingtons in the summer of 2011, having lived for the previous three years in Cheltenham.  She is married to Sam and they have two teenage children.  She enjoys travelling, cooking, wine, birdwatching, pub quizzes, music and people.  Prior to ordination she had various roles including working in Customer Services and tasting beer and spirits for an independent brewing company.  In addition to her role in our benefice, she was assistant DDO for the diocese of Gloucester, helping people explore their vocation and also part of Gloucester Cathedral Council.

Christopher moved to this Benefice in May 2014, from the Isle of Wight where he had ministered previously. He takes specific responsibility the Rissington parishes. He is married to Diane – they have 3 ‘grown-up’(?) children. Poppy the Dog still lives at home. Before ordination, Christopher’s main career was management consultancy in the NHS, employed within pre-Thatcher, privately after. He has also worked in manufacturing, and, with Diane, run a hotel. When time beyond his allegedly part-time post permits, he enjoys walking and DIY – in demand for the latter from his children now he’s back on mainland England. He and Diane enjoy tracing family tree.

Michelle was born in Southport, but moved to Cheltenham in her late teens for nurse training. She worked in the NHS for over 30 years before being ordained in 2014 and moving to Bourton on the Water to serve as Curate in this benefice. In addition, she is on the committee of Awesome Women's Network and shares in the ministry of healing and wholeness within the Deanery.  She has two adult children, Oliver and Camilla.  One of her passions in life includes eating copious amounts of cake, preferably in a national trust tea room adoring the architecture and art surrounding her. Among other things she enjoys literature, interior design, garden landscape and all things retro and vintage! In a past life Michelle also worked in a gallery, was a milliner and has an interest in interior design.
